AMPLIFY HER INTRO
AMPLIFY HER is a film, graphic novel, and animated motion comic series that explores the rise of female artists against the backdrop of the electronic music festival scene. Imagined and brought to life by more than 21 female creators across North America, this lush and visually dynamic world blurs the line between fiction and reality while demonstrating the power of letting women tell their own stories.
Featuring AppleCat, Blondtron, CloZee, Lux Moderna, A Hundred Drums, Kytami, and WALA, each of the artists rise through their unique challenges (including illness, sexism, and childhood trauma), to claim their voice and celebrate the power of sisterhood.
I had the pleasure of working with Ian Mackenzie and Nicole Sorochan in developing several animated parts of this film. The idea was to bring the comic book part to life through colour, texture and motion.
Working with real comic book artists, each of the girls took part in making a comic book. My idea for the intro credits was to freeze-frame a clip of each star and have one of the comic book artists to redraw that frame in a comic style. Then I would bring those illustrations to life in After effects.
Since the comic book was interwoven within the documentary, I felt it would be a good way to integrate the right at the beginning so the viewer would get acquanted with what they are about getting into.
I got to meet some of these girls and it was an honour to work on this refreshing and relevant story.
